Day One: Wednesday, November 2
Sandy Hook mother, educator, and co-founder of Safe and Sound Schools, Michele Gay shares how personal tragedy led her to rethink school safety, and inspired her to develop the Framework for Comprehensive School Safety that guides schools communities nationwide in their efforts to ensure safe and sound schools.

Frank DeAngelis, Former Principal of Columbine High School talks leadership and lessons learned from one of the most storied school leadership careers of our time. Through his personal experiences and straight-talking style, Frank confronts the challenges and realities of doing the right thing as a leader. As society becomes increasingly litigious, today’s school leaders worry that even seemingly correct decisions can lead to devastating and divisive lawsuits. Frank reminds us to prioritize what’s best for our kids, families, and school staff.
In 2015, the Tennessee School Safety Center launched the TN School Safety Mentor Program in an effort to provide peer-driven, school safety training and technical assistance to schools. This session will provide a blueprint of how this program was developed, overcame roadblocks, and achieved sustainable success in supporting safe and supportive learning environments.
